Many of the store’s items - the collection of model trains, classic Polaroid cameras, radios, antique plates and vintage women’s hats - come from the couple’s Lincoln Square two-flat, which has been passed down through generations of the family. “Never go to bed angry at each other, learn to forgive and forgot, and when we say ‘I love you,’ we mean it,” Robert Daly said. They’ve been married 37 years and counting. The couple’s hustle goes like this: Mary Jo Daly sells a home and Robert Daly comes and cleans it out, offering discounts on the service for valuables they can keep for the antique shop. Mary Jo Daly is a real estate agent who sells Chicago homes sometimes stuffed with antiques, and Robert Daly is a contractor who cleans out buildings sometimes stuffed with antiques. The Dalys said they stumbled into the business at the intersection of their day jobs. Sunday, with a patio, complimentary coffee and a smooth jazz playlist for visitors as they browse thousands of vintage items. The space is a museum of local Chicago history - and everything’s for sale, according to owner Mary Jo Daly and her husband, Robert Daly.īeyond Grandma’s House is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There are barstools from the 1890s and a gramophone from a Lincoln Square home, vintage Chicago Bears and Cubs trading cards and a 1930s music box that lived a previous life in Norwood Park. Keystone Ave., features shelves of novelty salt-and-pepper shakers, a full-sized knight in medieval armor and a replica prop from the “Apollo 13” movie premiere signed by Tom Hanks. HERMOSA - A long-forgotten boiler room in a cavernous corner of the former American Licorice Company building has turned into one couple’s new passion project: a sprawling, old-school Chicago antique store.
